  For my readers

“I need you to make a trip to Arizona.” Hanger leans back in his chair.

I stare at my president from across his desk. “When?”

  “This weekend.”

“No,” I state while shaking my head. “No way! Jorga will fuckin’ kill me if I take off the weekend of our first wedding anniversary and it’s Dancer’s grand opening for her studio. You’re gonna have to get someone else to go. Any other time, you know I wouldn’t say shit about going, but…” Meeting his eyes, I reiterate, “I can’t do it. Not this weekend, Prez.”

His elbows land on his desk as he sits up. “It has to be you, Tink.”

Slouching over, I press the palms of my hands against my temples. “Why me, and why does it have to be this fuckin’ weekend?” I grumble and pull at my long black hair. Jorga is going to be so pissed at me.

“Take your Ol’ Lady with you. Tell her you’re taking her away for the weekend. Gritt will give you the details when you get there.”

Releasing a deep breath of air, I look at Hanger in exasperation. “And what? Leave her in a hotel room while I go deal with club business on our fuckin’ anniversary?” I throw my arms in the air. “And how the fuck you think that’s gonna go over, Prez?”

He begins to chuckle, and it sparks my annoyance, causing me to narrow my eyes and glare at him. This is fuckin’ unreal.

“Give her some fuckin’ romance shit, and she won’t care what the fuck you do,” he guffaws.

“Fuck you!” My lips lift into a grin. “Don’t fuckin’ remind me about that.” Because of Jorga running her mouth, all of my brothers and their Ol’ Ladies found out about my proposal gone wrong.

Hanger bursts out laughing. “I still can’t fuckin’ believe you put a candy necklace around your dick. What did you want her to do? Get on her knees and eat the son of a bitch?”

Rolling my eyes, I slouch in my chair and groan, “At the time, it seemed like a great fuckin’ idea. And you fuckers are never gonna let me live that shit down, are you?”

“Never.” His laughter begins to settle, and his demeanor becomes somber. “I need you on this one, Tink.”

I sigh heavily. “I’ll figure it out.”

Jorga throws her head back while her hips rotate as she takes all of me inside of her. Her pleasure-filled screams echo through our quiet bedroom. I massage the flesh of her full tits sitting in the palms of my hands. “Lucas, I’m going to come!” she pants as her hands slap down onto my chest.

“Let go, Babe!” I grunt while my own release pushes forward. Her walls clench and tighten around my cock so fuckin’ good. Her nails dig into my chest while she chases her orgasm.

“Lucas!” she cries out as it rocks through her body. I pull her down to lay her chest against my own, her soft scarred skin flush with mine. My hands roam her body before settling on her ass cheeks.

My hips thrust upward, my cock pounds into her pussy until my own release shoots from me. “Jorga!” I groan into the crook of her neck. Our bodies slick with sweat and breaths nothing more than short pants, Jorga tries to pull herself away, but I’m not ready to let her go. I hold her in place by tightly wrapping my arms around her. I kiss the crown of her head. “Don’t move.” I glance up at the ceiling. Here goes nothing. “I was thinking, since our anniversary is this weekend, we should take a road trip.”

Her head pops up from my chest. “A road trip? To where?” Her gaze and smile light up the darkened room.

  “Arizona,” I state.

Her brow furrows. “Arizona? What the hell are we going to do in Arizona?”

I shrug my shoulder. “See the Grand Canyon or some shit. I don’t know.”

She pulls herself out of my hold and stands from the bed. Her hand lands on her hip, and her glare is fixated on me. “Lucas Melody, when have you ever wanted to go see the Grand Canyon?”

I throw my arm over my face and suck my lips into my mouth to keep from laughing. She knows me too fuckin’ well, but I have to get her to agree. “Babe, just say yes! Say you want to go see the Grand fuckin’ Canyon and let me be happy.” My gaze drifts to her, and I do my best puppy dog eyes with my lip poking out in a fake pout.

Jorga’s mouth quivers with a wavering smile. “Fine, Babe. I want to go see the Grand fuckin’ Canyon. Happy?” I move at lightning speed. She doesn’t even realize I’ve grabbed her until I pull her down onto the bed, causing her to burst into a fit of giggles.

I stare down into her lustful gaze, her laughter diminishes. “Thank you.” My mouth descends to hers. My tongue dances with hers, and the start of round two has begun.

I sit at the table, surrounded by my brothers, as Hanger calls Church. “I’m meeting with Snake in the next few days to discuss where we are with the Colorado trafficking.”

Hacker questions, “Is he any closer at finding out who the kingpin is? Seems this shit’s taking a long fuckin’ time.”

Hanger shakes his head. “As of right now, I have no fuckin’ idea. He better have more fuckin’ information when I meet with him. If not, I’ll get you on it, Hacker. I understand this is the Cobras deal because of Haven and Chapel, but now, we’re involved because of Rowan.”

“Damn straight!” Bam Bam interjects. “I want them all dead, and I’m tired of just sittin’ on this. Snake needs to get his shit together and figure out who the fuckin’ kingpin is.”

Bear nods in agreement. “With both clubs together, we can bring it all crashing down. Sick fucks need to meet their maker.”

Hanger leans back in his chair and runs his hand over his face. “I’ll see what he has to say when I meet with him. Anyone have anything else to discuss?”

I glance around the table before announcing, “I’m taking Jorga to Arizona this weekend.”

Hanger grins like a Cheshire ca
t. “Great. Church dismissed.” He brings the gavel down onto the table. As we’re all filing out of Chapel, Hanger grips my shoulder. “You can thank me later.” He pats my cut with that same suspicious smile.

“The fuck is that supposed to mean?” My brows furrow in confusion. Hanger doesn’t stick around long enough to answer. I’m starting to wonder about this trip, and why he’s really having me go.

We’ve been on the road for two days, and my gut is telling me something is up with this trip. Something’s not right. First, Lucas is not the type of person to road trip and especially to go see some canyon he’s never even been interested in. Second, he’s been acting strange ever since he asked me to go on this trip. He’s been abnormally quiet and overly sweet, like bringing me breakfast in bed, cooking dinner, cleaning the house, and showering me with gifts. Now, I’m not complaining, but this is not my husband’s normal behavior. Yes, Lucas treats me like a queen, but it’s been over the top the last couple of days. Which has me on high alert that something is going on and that he’s keeping something from me. I think he tricked me into agreeing to this trip, and I do not like this suspicious feeling I have inside of me.

We’re still a couple hours away from Arizona, but I can’t take it anymore. Tapping my thumb on my thigh, my eyes begin to narrow, and I bite the inside of my cheek before turning my glaring eyes on Lucas driving. “What made you decide Arizona? I mean, you could have picked anywhere in the United States, why Arizona?”

He rubs the back of his neck, and his eye twitches slightly. “I just thought it would be a nice trip.”

“Bullshit!” I point my finger at him and swivel in my seat, allowing me to face him head-on. My eyes are no more than tiny slits now, and my gut screams that he’s lying. “You’re lying!” I hiss accusingly. Anger ripples through my veins. “I’ve seen you lie to people, Lucas, but never to me. Every time you try and lie, your eye twitches. You’re a terrible liar! What is going on?”

“Fuck!” Lucas glances at me out of the corner of his eye. “Hanger needed me to come to Arizona for club business.”

I turn back in my seat and stare out of the windshield. “Stop the car!”

“Jorga, Babe—” I put my hand up to stop him from saying any more.

“Stop the car right now, Lucas.” My voice lowers as tears well in my eyes.

He pulls to the side of the highway. “I’m sorry,” he whispers.

My arms fold across my chest, and I turn once again to face my husband. I’m so angry right now I can’t even think straight. “Normally, Lucas, you know I wouldn’t care what you’re doing with the club.” I try to blink my tears away. “But it’s our first anniversary, and you brought me to Arizona for club business. You lied to me. Why didn’t you just tell me the truth, and why out of everyone did it have to be you this weekend?”

He groans. “I don’t know why it had to be me. I lied because I didn’t want you to be mad.” His head falls back and lands on the headrest.

I huff. “And look at where that got ya’.”

“I tried to get out of it, but Hanger insisted.” He peers over at me and lays his hand on my thigh.

Crossing my arms over my chest, I slouch down in the passenger seat of my car, staring out the windshield. “What am I supposed to do while you’re off doing this club business?” I bite my lip to try and keep my tears at bay. My nose is stinging. It’s only a matter of time before they will betray me and begin to fall.

“I don’t fuckin’ know. I hadn’t thought that far ahead.”

“If you think I’m sitting in some hotel room by myself, you’ve got another think coming, Babe.” I say the word babe condescendingly. I can’t believe he would do this. I’m so hurt, and the more hurt I feel, the more my anger surfaces.

“Are we having our first fight?” I hear the regret and worry in his tone, but he’s not getting off that easily.

“Yep.” I pop the p. “You’ll be taking me right along with you on this club business, too.”

  “I don’t—”

He starts, but I interrupt, “I really don’t think you want to finish that sentence. Take it or leave it. Your choice.” I give him no room to argue.

“Fine,” he grumbles before pulling the car back onto the road.

“If you wanted to leave me in some hotel room while you were out doing whatever it is that you’re going to be doing, then you should have just left me at home. I could have gone to Dancer’s grand opening by myself, and I could have celebrated tomorrow by myself!” And now the tears are trailing down my cheeks, which makes me even madder because I’m crying.

He groans loudly. “I didn’t want this. I didn’t want to come to Arizona, and I don’t want you sitting in a hotel room. I didn’t want any off it. I wanted to be at home with you, celebrating with you, and going with you to Dancer’s shit.”

I don’t respond; I have nothing more to say. I angrily wipe away the tears that keep trickling down.

Jorga didn’t speak to me for the rest of the night after our fight, and she hasn’t spoken one word today, so here I am with a pissed off wife, walking into the clubhouse owned by the Arizona Reapers. I have to figure out a way to get her not to be angry at me anymore. I can’t fuckin’ take her not talking to me and being so furious. I knew this shit would happen, and now, I’m mad at Hanger for making me come here.

Gritt, the president, meets us as we enter the building. “Thanks for coming, Tink.”

I nod. “This is my Ol’ Lady, Jorga. She came with me because it’s our—”

Gritt waves his hand in front of us. “Hanger told me. Happy Anniversary. I’m actually happy both of you came.”

Jorga barks out a laugh, but there isn’t an ounce of mirth in it. “It’d be a real happy anniversary if—”

“Jorga,” I growl her name in warning, cutting her off.

Gritt smirks. “It’s fine, Tink. I imagine she’s not too happy being here and not knowing why. Jorga, I hope after hearing what I have to say, you’ll understand.”

She doesn’t respond; instead, her gaze moves around the space as she checks everything out.

Dragging my eyes off of my wife, I look at Gritt. “Why did I need to come? Hanger didn’t say.”

“Let’s go to my office, where it’s quieter. We can talk in there.”

Jorga doesn’t say a word as we follow behind Gritt. “I’m sorry, Babe,” I whisper, trying again to apologize and take her hand, but she pulls it away. My shoulders sag. How long is she going to be pissed off?

Gritt closes his office door once Jorga and I take our seats across from his desk. “Ever since shit went down with the church, we’ve been helping the sisters find homes for all of the children. But Phoenix is a big city, more babies and children keep showing up on the church steps.”

I sit up in my seat. “What does that have to do with me? You want me to what find homes or some shit in Kansas?”

“Not exactly. I want you to take one of the babies.” My eyes grow wide, and my head snaps around to glance at Jorga. She’s now sitting up in her chair, her hands covering her mouth.

My mouth flops open and closed a few times in shock before I swallow hard. “You want us to take one of the babies? Why?” I question a little harsher than I intended. Shock will do that to you.

“It’s one particular baby. We’ve tried to find her a home, but no one will take her. When I explained her situation to Hanger, he recommended you two.”

I throw myself back in my chair. “This wasn’t club business at all. I got set up.”

Gritt chuckles. “You could say that.”

“Jorga?” I focus on my wife.

She breathes out. “We haven’t discussed kids. I always knew I wanted to be a mom, but having my own children was ripped away from me. Do you want kids, Tink?” Jorga shakes her head. “Would we even be ready for this?” At least this got her talking.

“I want whatever you want, Babe, but we don’t know her story. Why does no one want to take her?”

&nb
sp; Jorga frowns sternly. “Does her story matter? She’s a baby, Tink. She needs a home.”

There’s a knock on the door. “Come in,” Gritt yells to whoever is on the other side. The door opens, and a nun enters, holding a baby in her arms. One thing I never thought I’d see is a nun in a clubhouse full of bikers and whores. “Perfect timing, Sister Noelle.”

Her eyes shift between Jorga and I. “You must be Mr. and Mrs. Melody.” Her voice is soft and calm as she rocks the baby girl in her arms.

“Yes,” Jorga speaks before I can. “Is this her?”

Sister Noelle smiles sweetly and nods. “Yes, this is Harmony.”

The nun turns the baby girl in her arms, so we can see her face for the first time. She has a head full of dark chocolate hair and big brown eyes, but I notice the bandages they have on her tiny arms. “What’s wrong with her arms?” I blurt.

Sister Noelle kisses the crown of Harmony’s head and begins to explain. “Harmony’s biological mother had a history of dating men who were abusive.” Jorga’s hand finds mine and squeezes tightly. “Her last boyfriend wasn’t Harmony’s father, but they had started seeing one another while she was pregnant. After Harmony was born, Julie wanted to leave. She knew she needed to get out because it wasn’t safe for her or Harmony, but she was terrified he would find them if she managed to do it. When she finally got the courage, he held her hostage in their house, he poured gasoline on Julie and set her on fire. As the fire was blazing, the firefighters went into the house to extinguish it and search for anyone who might be trapped. They found Julie lying in the middle of the floor. She had passed, but by the grace of God, Harmony was still alive and sitting near her mother. This child’s life was spared. However, she has suffered varying levels of burns. Some are less severe, but some are second and third-degree burns. The injuries are spread across her arms, legs, part of her back, and stomach. She has spent the last six months in the hospital undergoing skin grafting and getting the necessary medical care she needs. This little girl has a long road ahead of her and will continue to need medical treatment for a while. It could be years. Most adoptive parents want happy, healthy children, and, unfortunately, this type of situation can be more than they want to handle.”
